Hoehn-Humberson Wedding

Pacts made at sea have more meaning. At sea, all you have is the crew you sail with. That crew becomes one, working to keep the ship afloat. Because it’s not all charts and astrolabes. The true thing that will keep a ship afloat is love: love tells you she’s injured before she keels, keeps her afloat when she ought to sink, and makes her a home. Love is what brought the crew, family and friends out for the wedding of Nancy Humberson to Scott Hoehn.

The Pirate Ship Black Raven was warm with excitement and happiness when Scott and Nancy, dressed in piratical wedding garb, boarded the ship to the welcoming embraces and joyful smiles of beloved comrades and friends. Their relationship of 2 years was about to become a legally, lawfully binding pact in front of all who attended. With Scott being the District Governor for Toastmasters’ district 84, overseeing over 2700 individuals, he chose to pop the all-important question to Nancy during a semiannual conference in front of 300 of those comrades.

The couple had become fascinated with the Pirate Ship Black Raven after some of her crew had attended a nautically-themed conference to stage a piratical takeover. That fascination led them to take a cruise, and that cruise led them to book their most joyous occasion aboard. The Black Raven answered the call, supplying a scenic backdrop for handwritten vows. During the course of the 3-hour cruise, the guests were entertained by the Black Raven’s very own Oly Mackeral, William Mayhem, and Magpie Maggie. A champagne toast was poured out skillfully by Jumpin’ Jo Jo and Daisy Drake, and both Captains Scary Larry and Flashfire were at the helm to be sure a raid on a local restaurant went according to plan. While the food was being brought aboard, another pirate came to claim his territory and a daring sword fight ensued. The new pirate, Jonas Krew, had claimed the feast and the dock as his own. Our ship’s Oly Mackerel fought the upstart to no avail, their swords clashing and ringing over the water. Finally, the Black Raven sent in Magpie Maggie as their shoe-in to win the ongoing battle. Sure enough, her charm and wit, not to mention her blade, subdued the renegade and Krew was taken captive. After Magpie and Oly had secured the new threat as a prisoner, the feast began!

While the Black Raven sailed back to her berth, her passengers enjoyed delicacies from the land and sea, fruits and meats of such sweetness that even the pirates wanted a bite! But the sweetest moment was seen when the new bride and groom cut their treasure-chest wedding cake. With the ceremonies over, the food consumed, and the smiles ever present, the ship docked back home and bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Scott Hoehn and their wedding guests. From the crew of the Pirate Ship Black Raven, the warmest wishes and happiest thoughts are sent with them, that their love may keep their lives afloat and secure for ages to come.
